Debugging connectivity to a named instance

Start > Run > services.msc

Find the services "SQL Server Browser"
  1. Ensure it is running
  2. Ensure it starts automatically
  3. Ensure the Firewall allows UDP 1434 through

Find the service "SQL Server (instance name)"
  1. Ensure it is running
  2. Ensure it starts automatically
